About Reverend Dr. Gregory A. Person

Dr. Gregory Alexander Person is the firstborn of three children to Bishop Alexander and Rev. Dr. Helen Person.  Dr. Person received his primary and secondary education within the Philadelphia Public School System.  Therefore after furthering his education becoming a graduate of Culinary Arts from the Philadelphia Restaurant School.  Dr. Person also matriculated at the Mt. Airy Religious Training Institute, Jamison Bible Institute, and Jameson Bible College in which he eventually received a Doctorate of Divinity.

Dr. Person's personal touch with music started when his father took him to their founding church St. Matthew Holiness Church of God Inc. They prayed at the altar that God would anoint his hands to be used for the glory and honor of God's service.  Dr. Person studied organ under the tutelage of Calvin Walker and soon was inspired to start a choir at his home church which was named "Glorious Angelic Praisers", which also shared his initials and remained in existence for twenty years.  He served in many capacities supporting his parents’ ministry for twenty-three years as musician, choir director, youth leader, and youth pastor, which extended from local to national levels.

Being faithful to his church, one evening during mid-week service, the organ music that was rendered, by young Dr. Person, could be heard outside.  A guest preacher came in the door, Rev. Barry E. Connelly, who not only enjoyed this young man's music, but later called and asked him to come to the  Cathedral of Faith Missionary Baptist Church and play for the "Celestial Choir".  For the next ten years, Dr. Person remained at that church where eventually he played for every choir during various services when needed.

Dr. Person has performed gospel music on local and national television and has shared stages with some of gospel's best (Pastor Shirley Caesar, the late Albertina Walker, Dr. Bobby Jones, and many more, including Little Richard).  Dr. Person has been a blessing to people of various denominations including Apostolic, Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, Pentecostal, and Sabbath Day Keepers, just to name a few.  Dr. Person has also written and directed a gospel musical drama entitled "There is Hope".

He served as Director of Music and Arts at Open Door Mission True Light Church from 2000-2006.  In 2008, Dr. Person was consecrated Elder with the Gates of Heaven Assembly of Churches and in 2009 through the International Federation of Christian Chaplains, Inc. became an International Certified Christian Chaplain.  Dr. Person has also received the Adjutant Certificate of Training from the Joint College of Bishops in 2010, 2011 & 2012.  Dr. Person recently completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education from the University of Pennsylvania Health System in 2012.

Currently, Dr. Person serves as Elder-Adjutant for the Gates of Heaven Assembly of Churches, Inc. under the leadership of Presiding Prelate Bishop Maureen L. Davis.  He also serves as Choir Director for the "Gospel Chorus" for Open Door Mission True Light Church, Music Director for the "Voices of Deliverance" for Bethel Assembly of Churches, choir musician at New Psalmist Baptist Church, and Chaplain and Congregational Care Leader at Open Door Mission True Light Church.
